Obituary of Phyllis A. Hoyt

      Phyllis Audrey Hoyt, 83, of Tunkhannock, PA, passed away on June 17, 2023, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, surrounded by loving family.

     Born June 12 1940, in Rochester, NY, to James and Marjorie (Peters) Burchard Sr, Phyllis was raised by her doting grandparents Herbert and Hazel (Curtis) Peters. She moved to Idetown, Harveys Lake, PA when she was a teenager and attended Lake Lehman High School. After graduation, Phyllis completed the Cosmetology Program at Empire Beauty School before marrying Robert Oliver Hoyt Jr and becoming a stay-at-home mother to their 6 children. 

     When her husband passed away 40 years ago in 1983, most of her children then young adults, Phyllis returned to the workforce, ultimately working in the office for Weis Market in Dallas until her retirement. She enjoyed bingo, casinos, music, dancing, and chatting with her many friends. During her later years, Phyllis also loved social media, her Facebook family and friends, as well as playing “shop” and “dolls” with her special companion, great-granddaughter Michael Lynn. 

     Surviving Phyllis are children: Dawn (James) Welch, Shelley Kresge, Robert (Jill) Hoyt III, Jeannette Hoyt and Rex Hoyt. 

Grandchildren: Nicole Hoyt, Amanda Walker, Devon Ross, Molly Zluchowski, Luke and Joseph Kresge. Great-grandchildren: Audrey Weaver, Gianna Cabellero, Michael Lynn Priest, Brooklynn and Kale Zluchowski. Also surviving are siblings: James (Dorothy) Burchard Jr, Judy (Roger) Covington, George (Norma) Carpenter, step-sibling Richard (Deborah) Gallagher, and cousin Donna Hennings. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family. 

     In addition to her parents and husband, Phyllis was preceded in death by a son Rory Lee Hoyt, grandsons Michael Heinbach and Billy Kresge, great-granddaughter Adaria Cabellero, as well as by sisters Kathleen Smith and Wendy Sweppenheiser.

     A Celebration of Phyllis’s Life will be held at the family’s convenience.
