Obituary of Helen M. Sparrow
Helen M. Sparrow, 96, of Scranton, died Friday at Dunmore Health Care Center. Her beloved husband of 55 years was the late Joseph F. Sparrow.
Born in North Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Catherine Clarke Hart. She resided in North Scranton until her final years, when she resided at the Dunmore Health Care Center. She was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. Before retirement, she was employed by the former Penn Hat and Linder Brothers Coat Factory. She was a member of Mary, Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church, Scranton.
Helen was full of love and joy and possessed a true Irish wit. She found happiness in flowers and was known for her cooking, especially her brownies, special grilled cheese, cakes and pies. Helen was very much loved and will be sorely missed by her family, who are proud to continue her legacy of love.
Surviving are three sons, Joseph E. Sparrow and wife, Mary Theresa, Dunmore; James and wife, Joan, North Scranton; and Patrick and wife, Janice, Dunmore; a daughter, Maureen Jenkinson and husband, Raymond, Maryland; six grandchildren, Diane, Joseph, Patrick, Jamie and Danielle Sparrow, and Brad Jenkinson; four great-grandchildren, Tyler and Mason Sparrow, Eva and Audrey Jenkinson; nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Annette Devaney, Catherine and Mary Hart, and a brother, Joseph Hart.
At the request of the family, the funeral will be private. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center, Penn Avenue, Scranton, PA; or to the donor's favorite charity.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Louis V. Ciuccio Funeral Home, 145 Moosic Road, Old Forge.
