Obituary of Sue M. Burti

      Sue M. Burti, 104, of Old Forge, died Tuesday at the Regional Hospital, Scranton.  She was the widow of the late Umbay Burti who died in 1988.

     Born in Old Forge, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Christine Raimondi Genova.  She attended the Old Forge Public School System.  For more than 50 years, she served as a volunteer for Mercy Hospital and Moses Taylor Hospital. Sue was a devoted, lifelong member of the Prince of Peace Parish – St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church, Old Forge.

     Surviving are three daughters, Rose Ann Rouff, Brackney, Carol Burti, Clarks Green, Mary B. Roma, Binghamton, NY, a son in-law, Thomas Martin, six grandchildren; Dr. Lisa K. Willis, Matthew Rouff and wife Heather, Sabrina Shaw, Eamon Martin, Christopher Roma, Maria Roma, two great-grandchildren, Merrell and Corrina Rouff, nieces, nephews, and a very special friend and companion, Maria Fabbo.  

     Through inimitable acts of grace, “Danda” shared a light of love fueled by her faith in Christ and sustained by the pure joy of selfless giving. Her strength in the face of many hardships were a model of courage and self reliance.  Her strong-will and deep personal pride were only eclipsed by her ability to laugh and connect with anyone. Patriotic and community minded, Sue was politically active and a proud Republican.  To Sue, family was everything and she made us all better people. Our hearts are broken but our souls have been uplifted by her spirit. 

    Sue was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Martin Shaheen, two son in-laws, Gilbert S. Rouff, and Anthony Roma.

     The funeral will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. from the Louis V. Ciuccio 
Funeral Home, 145 Moosic Road, Old Forge, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial by the Rev. August A. Ricciardi at the Prince of Peace Parish – St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church, 123 West Grace Street, Old Forge, PA.  Interment at Old Forge Cemetery.

     A viewing for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Sunday 3:00 – 6:00 p.m.
