Obituary of Joseph E. Meranti

     Joseph E. Meranti, 84, of Taylor, died Tuesday at Geisinger CMC.  He was preceded in death by his late wife, the former Lillian A. Bayo, in 2010.

     Born on March 21, 1939, in Old Forge, he was the son of the late Joseph and Jennie Pann Meranti.  He was a graduate of Old Forge High School’s Class of 1957.  He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp where he served as a paratrooper, USMC – Recon 1958 – 1962.  Prior to retirement, he was a truck driver for the former RCA Corporation, Dunmore.  Joseph was a lifetime member of Taylor’s Fire and Rescue Organization and a member of Teamsters’ Local 229.  He was a member of the Divine Mercy Parrish, Minooka.

     Joseph was a Mr. Fix-it, willing to help anyone at all times.  He had a passion for truck driving and was a “Walking GPS”.  He knew how to get anywhere in the country.

     Joseph’s family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Katie Sallavanti and care giver, Tish Lavelle, for their kind and compassionate care given to Joseph.

     Joseph is survived by four sons; Joseph Meranti, Jenkins Township, Daniel Meranti, Hughestown, A.J. Meranti and companion Kimmy Glogowski, Old Forge, David Bayo, Philadelphia, three daughters; Ann Marie Smith and husband Gary, Old Forge, Jennifer Calvert and husband John, Easton, Gina Wormuth and husband D.J., Carbondale Twp, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

     He was also preceded in death by two brothers, John and Ralph Meranti, three sisters, Kay Doria, Vicki Febo, and Marie Conforti.

     To honor Joseph, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the Prince of Peace Parrish, 123 West Grace Street, Old Forge, to be celebrated by Rev. August Ricciardi, Pastor.  Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery, Elmhurst.

     Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects to Joseph at the Louis V. Ciuccio Funeral Home, 145 Moosic Road, Old Forge, on Friday morning 8:30 – 9:30 a.m.
