Obituary of Rose M. Brutico
Rose M. Brutico, 89, of Old Forge, died Tuesday at the home of her daughter, Rose Fazio, in Clarks Summit. She was the widow of Carmen A. Brutico Sr., who died March 22.
Born in Old Forge, daughter of the late Anthony and Frances Cimino Talarico, she was valedictorian of the Old Forge High School class of 1942 and salutatorian of the Marywood College class of 1946, graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education, earning the St. Thomas Aquinas Cross for excellence in chemistry. She taught organic chemistry to student nurses at the Scranton State Hospital until the school of nursing closed, after which she pursued a Master of Science degree in counseling education from the University of Scranton. She then went on to become a guidance counselor for West Scranton High School, where she affected the lives and careers of thousands of high school students. Rose also attended the Julliard School of Music and was a notable violinist for the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic for more than 60 years. She was a violinist for famous entertainers, such as Skitch Henderson, the Moody Blues, Chicago, Bobby Vinton and many more.
Rose greatly enjoyed her family, music, opera and theater, as well as science.

Surviving are two sons, Dr. Anthony C. Brutico and wife, Frances; Dr. Carmen A. Brutico Jr. and wife, Mary; and daughter, Rose Brutico Fazio and husband, Joseph, all of Clarks Summit; grandchildren, F.Alane, Rachel, Anthony, Angelo, Joseph, Mikaela, Gabriel, Ariana, Angelina, Carmen III, Justin, Niccolo, Joseph, Angelo and Anthony; great-grandchildren, Jadon, Landry, Paisley, Milani, Berkley and Luca; a sister, Marie Pelicci, Scranton; nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Michael; and two sisters, Rose Talarico and Frances A. Greco.
The funeral will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. from the Louis V. Ciuccio Funeral Home, 145 Moosic Road, Old Forge, followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass at the Prince of Peace Parish - St. Mary's Church, West Grace Street, Old Forge. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.
