Rose Pennella, 96, of Old Forge, died Friday at the home of her daughter and caregiver, Mary Lou Verdetto. She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick.
Born in Old Forge, daughter of the late John and Eufemia Delvecchio, Rose was a lifelong member of the Prince of Peace Parish, St. Mary's Church, Old Forge.
Rose was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She took pleasure in spending time with her family. She was a wonderful baker and cook. Rose enjoyed playing cards and was a fervent Scrabble player.
Rose's family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Adamo, Compassionate Care Hospice and Interim Healthcare, and a special thanks to Toni Ralston, Sabrina Pacheco, Kim Kerrigan and Joy Prendergast for their wonderful care and devotion to Rose over the past year.
Surviving are three daughters, Rosemarie Carey and Mary Lou Verdetto, both of Old Forge; and Patricia Domozych and husband, Richard, New Jersey; daughter in-law, Diane Pennella, Old Forge; nine grandchildren, Debbie Drechin, Mark, Bruce and Kevin Carey, Ronald and David Verdetto, James Pennella, Christine Janesko and Karen Festa; 18 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, James Pennella; three sisters, Nancy Petro, Anna Delvecchio and Susan Letteri; two brothers, John and Michael Delvecchio; nieces and nephews.
The funeral Mass will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the Prince of Peace Parish, St. Mary's Church, 123 W. Grace St., Old Forge. Those attending the funeral Mass are asked to go directly to the church on Monday morning. Interment, Old Forge Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Louis V. Ciuccio Funeral Home, 145 Moosic Road, Old Forge.
